Conditions seemed pretty good on 20 at the start with a number of strong JA
signals mixed in with some USA, but the band died around 0200. A check around
0530 showed a few DX signals (like A92GD) that I was able to work, then back to
collecting off time till 1100, when the band opened nicely to Europe until
about 1300. The second JA opening started around 2330 but died by about 0030.
Pretty good display of auroura by 0700 but that didn't stop some European
signals from making it in the log. This was one of the few times the low TH-6
(75') outperformed the high (145') 5 el monobander. By the morning opening
(1200-1500) conditions had reversed again. No JA's heard in the final hours,
but conditions seemed enhanced to S America, the usual result of solar
disturbances.
Worked 45 dxcc countries - hilites would be working A82GD, TA2II, VS6BG; and
being called by VP8CKN and VK9NH/VK4.
36 JA's ,73 Europe, 12 S/C Am in the log.
The still pretty new FT-1000mp performed very well, easily keeping cool at 45
watts drive to the Alpha 77, which also had no trouble producing 1500 watts all
weekend.
