AB6FO SOHP Assisted
CT showed 6.6 hours, though I think I listened more. This was to try out
some new antennas, Force 12 EF420's stacked at 85'/53' and EF320 at 72'.
This stacked antenna thing sure is confusing. Before the contest Friday I
worked two St. Martin stations on 20 within a few minutes of each other. One
said the upper only was noticably better and one said the stack was
noticably better.

With all the discussion about Assisted vs not assisted, all I can say is
going assisted sure helped me get a feel for what the new antennas can do in
a pile-up. For a casual effort, it adds a LOT to the fun factor. (And it
probably adds a lot to the fun factor for the more than casual operation,
especially at this point in the sunspot cycle.) If you multiply that times
the few hundred (or maybe thousand) guys who are making a casual effort using
packet, it adds up to a lot of QSOs that otherwise might not be made. And
many more QSOs makes it more fun for the non assisted serious operators.
And I thought this was going to be the last contest op using AB6FO (and I
got beat up enough on my post about making a splash with the new call that
I'll just put it on the list along with everyone else.)
