I knew from the start that could not put in full single op effort as usual.
Had to attend a Christmas party on Saturday night and asked W7GNP if he
wanted to get some experience at a 160 meter contest and he accepted to come
over and operate while I was at the party.

First night was decent, for left coast city lot, had 447 QSO, about normal
for this contest. Fairly good JA opening first night and worked 17 JA's same
usual bunch, but signals very loud and all on top of each other. Sure wish
I had a beverage so I could hear below the first layer of JA's. Very little
DX heard and only worked 4 countries, 3E1, P40, XE, and JA. DX seemed way
down this year or at least that is all I heard.

Had to do some "Honey do Chores" Saturday so didn't crash till about 1 PM
local, had to get some sleep or knew I would never make the party. W7GNP
showed up late with a friend KJ7TX and rang the door bell and said he was
ready to try out this 160 meter stuff, short station tour and left for the
party about 6:30 PM. Left my pager number and went off to party which
turned out to be a pretty good party. Arrived home around 1AM to find W7GNP
and friend saying they had eaten all the peanuts and M&M's and I had worked
everyone the first night and they were leaving as it was to noisy and why
would I want to subject myself to that noise etc etc etc. QSO count was now
462 and one new mult NNY. By this time I was ready to crash but got back on
for a couple of hours and dug out 85 for Q's and quit at 3AM and said,
enough fun for this year. One highlight was making WAS again for the second
year in a row when I heard NL7Z in the window around 0245 local for my 50th
state.
