Firstly I would like to thank Paul, W6ZJ, for the use of his station
and callsign. Much appreciated...
Started listening around the band at the start of the Contest. Not to
much heard but as the hour went on the band started to open for the
West coast. The majority of the time was spent on mult hunting as the
East coast would have Europe busy with loud signals. Pretty much
covered the mults in South America and caught a few in Europe and
Africa. Once the termination point got close to ZL land it was time
to turn the beam around in that direction. Slowly started running
ZL's and as the hour went on moved the beam a little more towards VK
land and ran VK's. Crept the beam slowly towards Asia and then ran
JA's and Asia until the impossible happened.
At hour 11 into the contest the power went off. Power did not come
back on until around the end of hour 15. Pretty much it for 80M in
California. This meant loosing further runs of Asia and long path
mults from Europe, etc in the morning. Comments after the contest
were that many California stations worked long path Europe that
morning. This accounted for the low mult totals for Africa and
Europe.
Started the same procedure for the next evening and was hoping to
catch some of the missed Europe mults in the morning. No long path
opening and no Europe mults worked.
Overall was a lot of fun and many thanks for working W6ZJ on 80M!!!
