This will be a short version of the usual writeup. After completing a
nice long summary, somehow I managed to lose it all when the system froze
up. Rats!

10 and 15 were terrific to JA. The first two hours were two 150s, and
there were 305 QSOs in the log to JA/Asia at 02Z. Running 40 split was
good to JA/Asia in the mornings, and 10/15 were runnable to Europe on
Saturday, but not Sunday. I had nearly 2100 QSOs in the log at 1230Z on
Sunday morning, but the final crunch time to Europe was pretty much a
grind. Half of all the QSOs were JA. Thank god, there seems to be a
special relationship with Zone 25 from here.

I will retype a little story about the last ten minutes of the contest.
Usually, the final hours from Texas are pretty grinding, with S&Ping to
South America and Africa while trying to squeeze out a few more JAs on the
high bands. This time, at 2350, VK8AN called in on the 10 meter run to JA,
with Zone 29. We moved to 15 for another Zone 29 mult there. Then trying
20, where I didn't even have a VK at all, there was no propagation at all
to VK8. But after a plea for last minute help, C6A/KI6T and EI5DI both
called me on that frequency for two more new mults on 20. With the clock
at 2359, I issued one last plea to the contest gods, asking for "anyone in
Australia to give me a hand." At precisely 2359:15, VK6WR called in LP
over Europe with an S9 signal and said "sure, mate, what doya need?" Wow!
What a way to end with the double mult. We chatted about what a pleasant
ending it was for ten minutes while the equipment cooled down. A great
ending-the best ever for me. I really enjoyed the SSB contest, and the
bands were quite good for most of the weekend. The goal always is to make
the top ten from here. Who knows, maybe this will be the year.
