W7GG COMMENTS: Started out hot on 10M...340 QSO'S in first 2.25 hours.
Band died out after about 3 hrs, then things slowed down. Never
did get much going on 15M so tool a 30min break in frustration.
Opened on 20M after the break and had a nice run of 240 stns.
20M petered out kinda early but figured that since 40M usually one
of my better bands I could keep it goin there......wrong.....never
really able to hold a good freq on 40M...too much foreign broadcast
and SS QRM? The band felt long to me most of the time.
Did catch VO1MP at about 11Z for the sweep....felt good since Nl
has been tougher for me to find than VE8....Jay VY1JA has had a
lot to do with that. Ironically, I later worked several other
Nl's.....including two in a row at one point!!
Shut down for 2.5hr break at 0830Z.....came back on at 1100Z to see
if I could wk some East coasters at their sunrise...found a few but
not sure it was a good strategy cuz I then shut down for my
remaining three hours of off time. Back on at 1600Z (8am local)
and found 15M & 10M hopping....should have been on at least 30 mins
sooner......cranked up on 15M but cud not resist the lure of sigs on
10M......not used to hearing 10M open so early. Ran 10M and tunned
15M with the second radio for another 500 QSO's....fun!! Although
open early 10M did not seem as good Sunday and it closed sooner..
When 10M petered out I put the run stn on 20M and continued to
tune on 15M. This produced another 200 QSO's or so. Went to 40M
with 25 mins to go and needing 35 QSO's to make 1800....much to my
surprise I found a run freq high in the band and milked out the 35
QSO's by 0259Z......Had a goal of 2000 Q's but not good enuf to get
it done this year. Old age is taking it's toll!!
