This is by far my best contest ever; the conditions on the high bands were
fantastic. My station is essentially a "tri-band, single wire" station, and my
"new" antenna, an end-fed Zepp, is really a poor performer on 40 and 80 for
DX,
at least compared to the Windom that I took down to put up the Zepp. Live and
learn... The contest ended up being easy on me and the family, though; I got 8
hours of sleep both nights, took the wife out to dinner Saturday evening, and
went QRT at 2200Z on Sunday when I had to pick up my daugher at the airport.
I was amazed to have so many European QRP stations calling me on Sunday on all
3 high bands; lots of strong-sounding 2 and 5-watts stations, and even
morejust
out of the noise. The overall participation by European stations was amazing;
lots of good ops and lots of fun. Thanks, guys.
The scene on 3830 after the contest had to be heard to be believed; maybe we
sould be taking scores in CW...
Hope to see you all in the Virginia QSO party the weekend of March 20.
