Having finished with my finals, I decided to operate the 50MHz Spring
Sprint. It seems to have been largely a waste of time. We had propagation.
In the four hours of the sprint, I worked North Carolina, Florida, Minnesota,
North Dakota, Texas, and I got part of the way through a CW QSO with a
station in Ontario, and part of the way through a phone QSO with a station in
Illinois. It seemed like there weren't many stations on the air. I didn't
even HEAR another station in Texas until the last hour of the contest!
The last time I operated this contest, in 1997, my score was 58 times higher
than this. I actually made more QSOs in the 432MHz Sprint this year! Where
was everyone?!? What happened? Did people not know about the contest?
Is _absolutely everyone_ at Dayton? Are single band contests just not worth
doing?
