What a surprise !
I was kinda sceptic about my first ssb contest on 160. I had only three SSB
QSOs
on this band previously. I thought the QRM and QRN will be bad but it
wasn't.
My biggest surprise was that stations called me like:
EA8AH, VE6JY, CO8FH, N6LL, VE4SY and ND, SD, MB, AB...
CONDX for DX was very very bad. KV4FZ was 599+20 dB the night before the
contest and he was
good 44 in the first night during the contest. Didn't hear any EU at all up
here in this
latitude ! Before contest I was even called (CW) from EU...hi
Missed a few DX like: TI5, HC8N, HK6, KH6, ZF2, FG5
What about the "DX window"? When I called CQ I was rudly disciplined by the
"police" hams
and ask to leave but K1VW and W3GM was occupaing at least the half of
1820-1830 KHz severals
hours long...and nobody drived them away. Do I need a special licence for
that window?
Or do I need a couple of kilowatts in order to be qualified for that...?
Anyway, my new Inv Vee antenna works perfect and my 50m long receiver loop
is great,
without that I could for get 160m all together.
I like the fact that I4JMY worked 60 States/provinces and I did only 50.
I think I have some work to do...
