We had a great time! Did about a million points more than last year. At the end
of the first 24 hours, we were on pace for about a 7.7-meg finish. But, alas,
it was not to be. Saturday was a much better propagation day here at 42.5
degrees north latitude. I knew we were doomed when my wife came inside from a
trip to the mailbox Saturday evening and said, "There's visible aurora!" Uh-oh.
The high bands opened really late Sunday morning, and didn't come close to
gaining the steam they'd had on Saturday. The effect of this is clear from our
10-meter performance on the two days--day 1, 1037 QSOs; day 2, 238 QSOs. Ouch.
But the station worked fine, and we had a wonderful time. Four guys is about
the right size for a multi-single in CQWW. It was a blast. Thanks to the great
crew--especially N2MG, who took Friday off to help with the last-minute stuff
that always occurs, and K2AXX, who has spent more time helping me build my
station over the past five years than anyone else.
