This contest was so different in different parts of the country. Down in
here in Austin, Texas, Europe was not there except for the polar overnight
opening on 20 (and 15), plus some 40. To make matters worse, we got
essentially zero JA opening at all on 15 and 10. These are our two Asian
money bands usually. We did get a very fine 10 meter E-skip type of
opening most of Saturday. Without that and the midnight run on 20, we
could have been skunked. On the mult front, I worked the two radios hard,
moved everyone possible to other bands, but still got only 183 compared
with 241 at WX0B and 205 at N2IC, my regional competition along with K5GN.
Gotta discover what I need to do to get to the next level! Like Steve
said, the explosion of HQ stations make this thing ever more Euro (read
East Coast) centric. It would be nice to see a score calculation based on
a zones only version.
The hardware and software here worked flawlessly, and the weather was hot
and dry, so no local storms. I like the NA SO2R capability and all the
little things that K8CC has added.
15 meters sounded like a tortured and dead band most of Saturday. Was
there a flare? Whatttzzzup? 80 was almost useless for me.
Europe was 23% of my QSOs and Asia was-gasp-only 9%. North America was 64%.
Congrats on all the great scores, and to N2IC and W4PA at WX0B for their
fine reported scores from Zone 7.
