Comments:
Only station fixing I had to do before the contest was swap the balun on the
160m inverted V because of a smoked/arced connecter, probably due to the extra
salty environment at my QTH on the northcoast of the Island.
As usual, very noisy conditions on low bands from down here. Worked only one EU
station (PA6HQ) on topband. Weakest station heard and worked on 10m was W1AW/6.
Was nice to get VK6ANC break through the EU pileup for zone 58 on 20m.
Saturday morning rates were horrible but things picked up later in the day.
My patience looking for EU on 10m finaly paid off on Sunday morning during the
last hour of the contest, which netted me a decent number of additional
multipliers in that last hour. Had some outstandingly strong stations Canadian
stations coming in also at that time. Definitelly quite a jolt after all thos
hours.
10m never opened up to JA, but had some nice runs to JA on 20m and 15m when
things started slowing down towards the other areas.
Sacrificed a higher QSO total, since too much time was spent on the low bands
and S&P for multipliers. Really need too start doing SO2R asap!!
First time using Tree's TRLOG software, which took a little getting used to,
but the increase in crucial information being presented during the contest, was
definitelly worth it. No fancy borders around the info windows and all commands
work from directly from the keyboard. Really enjoyed some of the other features
of the program.
In retrospect, I made some crucial errors during this contest, but this is what
contesting is all about. You learn the hard way. ;-)
Was definitelly nice to see quite a few familiar calls on the air and really
enjoyed the contest.
