6 CONTINENTS

Didn't get on until late Fri night. Nice to work FO5PS on 20 for 1st Q. Worked
a couple of the usual ZL suspects, switched to 40, worked a few Ws and KH6 and
went to bed with 10 Qs and 10 mults for 5 hours' work. Cndx not very good.

No blow by blow description this time, but a couple of amusements further down.
Conditions seemed to pick up Sat and Sun. Never heard anybody on 80. I was
only going to dabble but ended up spending as much time as I could.

At 0133Z Mar 16 I managed to work YL7A on 40. He was pretty loud and he was
there for hours. Heard no other Eu at that time. How does he do it?

At 0630Z Mar 16 I tuned around on 40. Nothing. What the heck, CQ'd for a
little while and had a mini-run of 5 Ws in 9 min then nothing. Tuned around
some more and heard a whole bunch of people CQing. Awright... Oh, every one of
them had just worked me and decided to try CQing. Sigh. It was kind of funny
to realize that I had sparked a brief flurry of activity on 40.

Somewhere along the way A45WD dumped his call twice on my frequency, nice and
loud. Didn't work him. Never heard one before. Never heard him again.

At 1844Z Mar 16 I was sitting with 220 Qs and 91 mults when I worked ZS6BBK on
15. That's nice I thought, then it hit me. He was continent #6 and that Q was
worth 20,000 points. What an interesting contest where 1 Q can be worth 20% of
your score.

Something I realized only recently is the need to track which easy mults I need.
 I made sure before I finished that I had worked W0 to W9 on 10, 15 and 20.
Only managed W2 to W6 on 40 which choked me up a little. Tried to do the same
with JA with less success.

I'll be doing this one again. RTTY contesting is pretty laid back. You can eat
a meal and drink a beer while you're doing it. No straining to pick out a call.
It prints or it doesn't. Well, sometimes you have to guess at a call but it
doesn't hurt your head while you're doing it.

Thanks for the Qs and see you next time
