Comments:

Contest condx were reasonable. It was nice to see 10m and 15m open. There were
thunderstorms in the area, so QRN and rain static were a problem at times. One
humorous incident: I was callling and callling John, W4IX, on 10m who only lives
about 100 miles away (Fla), and he could not get my call. 5T4SA, over 4,000
miles away, called me and gave me a 5/9. From that John understood that it was
me who was calling him, and we were able to exchange reports. In another case of
being too close together, we called VP5/IK2SGC on 20m time and time again, but
never did work him. We finally worked on 80m.

We trial ran a new Icom 746Pro for a friend to see how it compaired with the IC
756ProII. On SSB, the receiver certainly seemed to be on par with the 756ProII,
and on the transmit side, we got good audio reports. The only things the 746Pro
lacks for a SSB contest are a voice keyer and a separate rx antenna input, both
of which the 756ProII has.
