Comments:

I always try to participate in PAQP, partly to thank the PA stns who always help
out in CQP the week before. But I continue to be frustrated by the structure of
the contest that seems to discourage PA stations from 20-15-10 activity. It
always seems that the PA stations, even the big guns, spend most of their time
on 40-80-160, and only emerge to the high bands to try to work multipliers.
This, I suppose, is a direct result of giving PA stations multiplier credit for
PA counties.
I was off and on the air a number of times this weekend, but would run out of
stations to work very quickly. When I first got on, for example, about 1740Z on
Saturday, both 10 and 15 were wide open from CA to PA. But in a half hour of
active searching, I managed to work only 13 QSOs on both bands, both modes, even
though many of the signals I did hear were S9. In fact initially I heard only
one station, WB3EVL, CQing on 15, with an S9 plus signal. This is in the middle
of the afternoon in PA -- were the PA stations all on 40?
While I assume there is no interest in changing the basic structure of the
contest (i.e., not allowing mult credit to PA stations for PA counties), can't
something be done to encourage high band activity to increase participation in
the rest of the world? Maybe changing the scoring to give double points for
high band contacts?
Anyway, thanks as always to the organizers for putting on the show.
   73, andy, ae6y
