Comments:

This was a very tough SS this year. 20 meters was not playing short from here
in the Mid-West. One way path to the West Coast only, and south to southern
states and WP2Z and WP3R. Started out great on 40 with 97 the first hour, best
rate ever first hour, then it was down hill from there. Conditions seem screwy
at times, with band conditions changing from time to time signals were up and
down. Ended the first night with the lowest q total ever for phone SS at 526.
Went to bed early at 0715Z. Got back on at 1130Z and ran for 2 hours on 80
meters with 61 for each hour. 40 meters played great for the 2nd day on Sunday,
and I was able to make up some ground from the first day low output. Ended up
with 663 q's for the 2nd day. Missed SK, AK, and NT. Heard SK a couple of
times, but he was S&P ing on 20 meters, and never could seem to catch him.
Never did hear VY1JA or Alaska at all. Kept spining the dial on the 2nd radio
looking for them, but never heard a peep or any kind of a pile up for them.
Ended up taking the last hour off for the break since the rate was running good
in the afternoon hours, I didn't take any breaks. Maybe I should of, seems SK
and AK were worked the last hour of the contest by a few stations that have
reported.

Ended up with 230 q's on the 2nd radio which really helped out. Most sections
worked were as follows: Il 80, VA 60, OH 54, MN 54, MI 53, SCV 44, MDC 43.

It was nice to work N4RZ (AA4RX) on 80 meters on Sunday. Welcome back to SS
after being off for a number of years. As always it is great to get on for SS
even though it is challenging at times as it was this year. One thing that is
nice, there is always next year. Congrats to all the great LP scores with
tought band conditions.

73's W8MJ
