Comments:

Luckly the 2003 in going to finish ..... it has been Murphy's year for me ..
never had the possibility to a full time effort in any contest except the ARRLDX
CW .Untill Monday morning i have a reservation for the flight to Sicily to
operate IR9T .... but i received the new that my father should stay at the
hospital for some days .... so even the CQWW CW finished well before it started
! In my qth i've no more rooms for 80/160 good ants ( a new car parking has been
done last December) so with those cndx forced to stay here it means no way to
achieve any good results !
I decided to have a spare time effort ..... i started the contest at 0040z and
with big surprise i found 20m still open to US ..weak sigs but good hour,40m
were in good shape and i managed to work US even with my little dipole .On 80
and 160 i tuned the feed line to achive some QSOs .... the results on those band
are not so bad for some 200w into a "tune feedline" ant.
The high bands has been quiete good ,i had a good run on Saturday morning to JA
LP , really nice opening , i don't spend too much time on 15 and 10m has been
again the best band here in what means high rates with US , nothing far than
middle west and some AZ stns ,but the band has been plenty of East coast stns.
Even with solar cicle at this level 10 are still great , i think new antennas ,
new radios are helping fighting against low solar activity .....
As ever "the contest" ,as the CQWW is, has been a great event , i aggree with
the others about the use of packet cluster ,but let me spend few words :i've
always used Packet cluster in the CQWW during last 3 years and i use to be
assisted in the other contests too (when i am all bands)and the first times i
used the cluster you have a lot of problems to have high rates or to maximize
you score since naturally you're going to follow the cluster .... so the first
try in the assisted category are not so easy and it seems that the cluster don't
help increase your score.... but if you become confident with it and if you know
when try to work a spotted station or when to not even try to listen it , you'll
find the cluster a good friend , and your mult charts will not suffer from some
easy mults lost.Give a look at some assisted score of this year .... Rick KI1G
has done something simply fantastic ... break the 9 mega points wall from US is
not so easy (CONGRATS Rick),even Barry (W2UP) and Chas (K3WW) has done some
outstanding job ... in EU Ben's DL6FBL score is not less effective .... and i'm
sure some other big score in this category has to come ... this guys doesn't
seem to be suffer too much the use of packet cluster .... they have done some
mistakes in the past (as we all do) and now they know how to look at the cluster
screen.
73s and catch u sn ....
