This year I decided to work the OQP from my cottage between Perth and Wesport in
Lanark (LAN) County versus my home QTH in Ottawa - pretty much the same setup as
I had for Canada Day 2003 using special event callsign VE3REX for Rural EXpo
2003 - wound up 7th in SOABLP.
Basic station with a 40M sloping square loop and a 132' inverted windom
(actually a multiband OCF dipole) both hung up about 35' in the trees and fed
with coax. Equipment: Kenwood TS-450, Bencher straight key, MFJ 948 tuner and
laptop PC for logging using Kevin's OQP Contest Logger software - capable of
working 160M - 10M.
I put in operating time of ~16 hours - even got 6 hours solid sleep.
Claimed Results:
352 Q's - 454 QSO Points - 143 Mults = *64,922 Final Score
*Hopefully a new Lanark County record score!
Lots of fun and great chats with some ops in Canada and the U.S. (and a few DX
stations) - hope to do it again next year. Maybe I might even try to go
single-op ROVER in Ottawa, Renfrew, Lanark, and Leeds-Grenville.
