Comments:

01:00z started off with a bang, literally. Severe thunderstorms were
forecast for the area and for the next 8 hours the forecast actually held
true! At 01:15z the hydro power started dropping out. At 02:28 the
lightning was closing in on the station about a mile away. The station was
shut down. Later after the immediate lightning threat had passed the
thought of firing the station up again was dampened as the hydro power
went off at 04:30z. Hydro power stayed off for the next 5 hours. Fighting
nature tooth and nail the emergency generator was started and life was
good once again, incredibly noisy, but good. Back on the air at around
04:40z. Conditions faded in the early morning hours and decided it was
time to grab a few hours of sleep. Just nicely got snuggled into bed after
shutting the generator down and the hydro power came back on, oh gee
perfect! Finally kicking and screaming, an emergency call from work
took me away from the station for the last hour of the contest.

Aside from the static crashes still lingering in the area during the second
half, the rest of the contest went on without a hitch. Although propagation
was down from last year it seems, the contest was still a whole lot of fun
as always.

This was my first time running the VE7RAC callsign. I hope I was able to
give out as many of those 20 pointers QSO's as possible. There was a lot
of familiar callsigns in Canada, the U.S.A., and other DX locations. Good
to hear those regulars back again. To those I contacted for the first time, I

hope I?ll hear from you again and again.

TU all, Pat VA7XX (VE7RAC).
