Comments:
Congratulations to all of the operators and stations who participated in the
largest DX contest in the world this past weekend! Special congrats to N3RS and
K4JA for fabulous efforts in the USA Multi-Two category. Also, tremendous scores
by W3LPL and KC1XX in multi multi!
Due to a few last minute operator conflicts, we decided to participate in
Multi-Two instead of our traditional multi multi class. We had a blast!
We were sad to learn that Scott, N3RA would not be with us this time. He got the
flu and was sick all weekend. We really missed him. This is the first time since
1992 that N3RA has missed a K3LR operation, he can?t wait to return for multi
multi in CQWW CW!
Several new contest men joined our team this time. This was the first CQWW Phone
contest from K3LR for Dave, W9ZRX. He spent two days before the contest helping
me prepare the station. I would have never finished my ?to do? list without
Dave.
Jim, K4SQR drove from Charlotte, NC and got to use the new NT 2x4 (Named NT
because Andy, N2NT convinced me to build it) eight vertical array (Comtek
Systems Hybrids driving two 4 squares in phase) on 80 meters and pronounced it
?ready for high rate?.
How about 40 meters? Bob, N5NJ and Bob, N4HY enjoyed the tremendous 40 meter
conditions. The band wore them out and Sunday morning they invited John, K1AR to
help with two hours of 71 and 82 to Europe.
K1AR opened the contest on 20 meters with John, N2NC at the mult station. The
fully interlocked pair had a spectacular 233 first hour!
At the same time Phil, K3UA and Mark, KI7WX opened 15 meters with a 187 hour to
JA. With K3UA in the 15 meter run chair, he anchored the most amazing 15 meter
effort ever at K3LR with almost 3000 QSOs! How much coffee does K3UA need to
drink to have 3 hours over 200 and an unbelievable 14 hours over 100 QSOs on 15?
Greg, N3SD gave K3UA and KI7WX well deserved breaks.
N2NC operated just about every position during the weekend. A true "iron man".
Even an Iron Man gets tired as Saturday night when several VKs and ZLs had to
wake him up during the ?grave yard? 20 meter shift.
Ken, WM5R came in from Texas and could not believe how strong the European
stations are. K1AR commented to Ken that Europe is MUCH stronger at K1EA?s
QTH.
George, N3GJ likes CW much more than phone, but what fun he had with the
interlocked 10 meter station operating side by side with K1AR at 1300 zulu on
Sunday morning. A 313 hour! WOW!!! This was nothing short of amazing!
Pictures of CQWW Phone operation and the installation of the new phased 80 meter
4 square system will be posted soon at http://www.k3lr.com
Thanks to all of the super operators that came to operate K3LR. You are the
best!
We?ll see all of you in Multi Multi for CQWW CW in a few weeks.
73!
