Comments:
I arrived home from an overseas trip a couple of hours into the contest. I knew
I was not going to be able to stay awake long enough to get many QSOs, but
figured I might still have a chance to work 80 sections.
After pausing to eat, I got on and immediately found the pileups on both VY1JA
and KL7J, but decided not to stick around and fight with the pileups on
Saturday, figuring I would work them on Sunday. That turned out to be a
mistake.
During a couple of hours on Saturday evening I worked 53 sections in 54 QSOs,
then had to stop for sleep.
Got up at 4 am, ran for a while on 80m and a short stint on 40m, then went for
another short nap, and kept on all day like that - a couple of hours on folowed
by a short rest, then back again for a while. My section count crept up during
the day to the point where I started to think the sweep was a possibility, but
when I came back from a break to start looking for the last few sections, the
band was full of watery backscattered signals. That was the end of my hopes for
NT and AK, as well as PAC. The fourth missing section was SC, which probably
would not have been too hard to work on Sunday if 40m had not been wiped out.
Let's hope next year works out better...
