Comments:
Conditions during the ARRL 160 contest were "too good": we could hear
nearly everything alledged to be on the air, but we were not getting
the responses to CQs that we would expect, although cracking pile-ups
seemed fairly normal.
Conditions during the Stew Perry test seemed inverted: we had to make
significant effort to hear stations that were plainly audible two
weeks earlier, and even last year. We could easily work anyone we
could hear.
We ended up with more QSOs (428 versus 364) but fewer points (1470
versus 1694). We worked: CO, DL, G, GU, GW, KH6, KV4, LY, OH0, OK,
ON, PJ2, SM, SP, SV, UA2, XE, and YV.
Perhaps last year I spent more time pouncing since I was by myself,
and this year Jeff spent more time CQing. Nevertheless, conditions
from Carroll, Ohio, were better in 2003 than 2004.
Antenna farm consistes of:
transmit: 40 foot "T" over 60 110 foot radials fed by 1000 feet of
RG213 (3db per the book!)
receive: Bearing Length
000/180 900 ft
030/210 690 ft
060/240 580 ft
090/270 480 ft
120/300 580 ft
150/330 690 ft
The receive antennas are all two wire Beverages, "center" fed with RG6
back to a common point closest to all the antenna centers which has a
14 position remote switch. The switch connects the antenna to one of:
radio A, radio B, or 75 ohm dummy load (carbon resistor).
Family time permitting, I'll see y'all on the CQ 160, and K8ND says
"hi!"
