Comments:
With my wife out of town I had the weekend available to play radio to my heart's
content. Since I do three major QSO parties mobile each year, I took this as a
chance to play seriously in one from home.
I missed Cook, Koochiching, and Pope counties. Looking at the mobile coverage
maps afterward it appears that two, and maybe all three, were on at the very
start before I made my fashionably late (20 minutes) appearance at the party.
Cleveland was just on the fringe of 20 meter coverage. Only a couple of signals
from the far north or west briefly were loud enough to move the S-meter. I did
not find much SSB activity anywhere until the last 15 minutes on 75 meters.
The mobile activity was great. Mobile QSO totals were NE9U and W0YC 23, N0IM 20,
N0IJ 17, N0PI 15, N0FP and WS0S 14, K0PC 12, W0ZQ 9, N0EO 8, KE0G 4, and
VA4MWA/W0 two.
The wierdest operating practice was K0PC signing after a QSO with "QRZ MNQP/CTY"
but no callsign.
It was a good kickoff to the 2005 QSO Party season. The pileups on the mobiles
were getting me pumped for the Michigan QSO Party in 10 weeks (April 16). See
you then, as well as in Ohio on August 27 and Pennsylvania in October.
