Notes:
I know alot of people were keen on working me. Many stations gave me serial 001
or 002 and those will probably not be accounted for since they will probably not
send their log in. That does not matter to me since I will probably win in ZK1
anyway HI HI but what did make me sad was that stations that I just newly worked
started CQing next to me causing splatter or even stole the frequency.
I was not in the contest to win it in Oceania but to give RTTY lovers a new
country. It is sad to see that so many stations do not have respect for their
fellow DXers.
Something else sad is all the people running with processors or cheap
CB-amplifiers being wide as a barn wall so that they could keep their
frequency.
As a example (no calls) 1 station was 7KHz wide in both directions. That did not
help me out to help more get S Cook on RTTY.
A note about 40m which I had very few QSOs on.
I would have gotten several 100s of QSOs on 40 but there was a huge problem that
I never experianced here in Sweden or anyware else.
It seems that in Oceania people start using SSB allready on 7030 and there is no
understanding to digital modes at all. Not only were there SSB signals in the
RTTY window but also FM and AM. It seems there are alot of Pirates (Fishermen
mainly from Indonesia, Phillipines and Japan) that use 40m to shit-chat. I also
noticed this (and even worse) on 30m.
Pirates on our bands is something that our national societies need to adress
more often in discutions with the different telecom agancies.
As noted earlier during my teams expedition propagition has been very strange
and still is. Came home a few days ago but my teammate ZK1SDE is still on
Aitutaki and I worked him yeasterday with honest signalson SSB. He was 31 using
300W to me and I was 55 using 100W in his reciever.
This is a phenomena we noticed in S Cook all the time during our stay.
We could be CQing for half an hour without responce but later hear from others
we have been 57 in Europe. Strange though our noice matt were almost
non-existing. Other times I heard Europeans 57-59 but they just keept on CQing
between me trying to get thrue.
This is something that really was experianced during the contest as well.
YT600A, OZ9GA, SV8CS among other were heard LOUD during several parts of the
contest but would not even send a "agn" when I called.
Most fun thing about the contest was the people who called me up after the
contest telling me that all the reason they been in the contest was to work me
and that I made their day.
1 Fellow was really happy because my QSL will give him hounour roll RTTY.
Those are things that really make the trip and work worth and fun.
