Comments:

I was looking forward to putting a good effort into this event, after working
with low power and just a wire antenna last year because of my recent move.
This year the antennas are up and I was ready. But Mother Nature stepped in.

At 2215Z on Saturday I shut down the station and disconnected things because
there was a storm approching with a lot of lightning. For the next half hour I
watched out the window as the lightning was severe and the winds did a lot of
damage. As I was watching, two 60-foot pine trees were literally just blown over
in the park behind my house (where the power lines to my house are routed). My
power went out.

I borrowed a small generator from a friend to run our refrigerator and a few
lights. The power company worked in the night to clear out the fallen timber.
Sunday morning they came back and got the power lines back on the poles. Our
yard was a mess with leaves and fallen limbs. Luckily, I didn't lose any
antennas, but the quad had spun about 90 degrees in the rotor.

Power went on for a couple minutes and then we heard a loud 'bang' as a power
pole transformer blew. The power company workers were still there, so they went
back to work. After another hour or so the power was restored, about 17 hours
after it originally went down.

Some cleanup on the property was the first order of business. One end of my
80-meter inverted vee is on the ground because the tree that was holding the end
support is no longer standing. After three or four hours of cleanup and then a
shower, I was kinda out of the contest mood...:-)

Oh, well, there's always next year...

Rig: FT-1000MP and ALS-600 amp, 500 watts
