Comments:
Picked up a IC-746 recently and decided to see how it would work with one of
those cheapo multi-band repeater style verticals I happened to have. While the
tuner in the IC-746 allowed the vertical to reonate down low this was not the
case on 2m where I was forced to operate FM simplex. Late sunday afternoon
after being turned down for some 2m FM skeds, I decided to construct a dipole
which I taped to my deck railing. The dipole worked ok though I had to keep
going outside to swap coax cables between the vertical and dipole. I did manage
a handful of 222 / 432 contacts by going out to my mobile to work them. Maybe
next summer I can get some beams on the tower and some more equipment!
