Comments:
The storms were right over my QTH all Friday night and the noise was terrible...
The East Coast will not understand this because they can hear Europe on a
coathanger antenna, but the rest of you will... The first night I used the NE
Beverage mostly and heard Europeans, but couldn't pull out but one call for a
QSO. The MM0 who called several different times: Thanks for trying and here is
why I couldnt hear you: On Saturday I went out to check the NE Beverage (BOG)
and found that the mowers for that pasture had caught the wire and chopped it
up. I was listening on a six inch piece of wire! Actually, the feed line for
that one is not burried, so I guess I was hearing what the shield picked up...
I rolled out another wire and resistor and was in much better shape Saturday
night. (Now I know I need to burry that feedline before next season.) Saturday
night I could hear another 2 layers deep! Unfortunately I didn't hear any
Europeans, however. I did get an EA8, KH6 and KL7 though. I almost argued with
KL7RA about what his call was at 11:36 on Sunday, I never expected to get a KL7
much less one that strong! "K4?" "K4/KL7?" "K4/KL7RA?" "KL7RA? Naw...
Really?!!"
Another good one was ZL1HY on Saturday at 06:56.. Did not work any VK's between
the storm noise and the lack of a NW Beverage.
This contest was a blast even though the NE Beverage was gone, the NW Beverage
had no feedline and the switching was out on the East Transmit antenna...
