What a weekend to try to do a backyard portable operation...RAIN!

I have no permanent VHF installation here. So earlier this week I ordered
a Rohn 50 ft (really 44') push up mast and a Hy-gain AR-35 rotor. Already
had the 6m, 2m, and 440 beams from my FM08 adventures of last year. It
sure was easier to drive from DC to 3,600 feet and use short tripods to
hold the antennas!

The rain on Sat morning delayed the start of setting things up. Finally started
getting things together around 9am. Took like 6 hrs of setup time! Got on the
air at 2040z. Nothing like missing the first 2:40 of the contest! Had fun with
the opening(s) that were left.

The FT-857d had an intermittent problem when it got warmed up on 6m. The
Hy-gain rotator stopped working while testing it on the driveway. So I
was reduced to using the trusty FT-817 (5 watts).

Slept in the screen house overnight. Found out the neighborhood is noiser when
you are outside! Couple of trains woke me up. Then at 3:30 am the rain came
back in force. Enough to drive me and all the radio equip back into the house.

Decided to give it a go again on Sunday a.m. since the wx report looked better.
Propagation was better on Sat than Sun. There was an anniversary event going on
at the Lansing airport so assorted helicopters and planes flying around the
house added some non-ham QRM.

Probably spent more time setting up and taking down than actually operating!

Had fun though...Best grid(s): CM95, DM54, EM00, DN96, FN64, FN75
