Comments:
Always a lot of fun. WAE CW is still my favorite contest. Conditions weren't
great this year but it was nice to work the usual suspects from Europe.
Everything here at K6LA's rental station worked fine.
A nice and unexpected opening on 10 meters Sunday morning. A lot of fun to
quickly snag a bunch of multipliers. I probably missed a couple since the
internet connection for the cluster wasn't working most of Sunday, but
maybe not. Looks like RK2FWA would have been easy but somehow I missed
him. This opening gave me several stations on five bands!
I worked on multipliers this year, giving up some rate on 40 and moving
people more aggressively even during the first hours. I THINK it helped, but
we'll see. :-) My multiplier total is up some from last year somewhat.
The highlights of the contest for me were having TF3KX call in on 80
and quickly moving him to 40 and 20! Lots of fun...thanks. And,
finding 9H1SP cq'ing on 15 and having a nice QSO with him. I
really like the rule that lets us work people who are not in
the contest! I HOPE this is a unique for me but others probably
found him...
The "lowlight" was finding LX7I on 15, after missing him on 20,
asking him to QSY, and being told he had already worked VY2ZM
on 10! Must have been a multi-op... :-)
I think my off-time strategy from here has been flawed. I've tried to be on
for the last couple of hours to snag those last mults on 40 and 80. There
usually aren't any and the rates are terrible. If I get the chance to try this
again, I think (if conditions are similar), I'll take shorter breaks Friday and
Saturday night (get back on earlier) and take the last few hours off.
