Comments:
The planned setup was three 30 foot towers with an old TA-33JR,
Cushcraft A3S with 40 meter element, a 2 element 15/10 quad with
a dipole on each tower. The conditions were so windy on Friday
for our setup that we were unable to push our quad into the air
so nothing but a dipole on that tower. The phone stations were a
Kenwood TS-440s and a Yaesu FT-920. The cw station was a Ten-Tec
Orion II.
To handle the multiple county logging problem, I wrote a custom
logging program that would handle our multiple counties as well
as other multiples. It worked well but had a problem after logging
309 QSOs and crash. So we would restart the program just before
the imminent crash losing QSO totals. That necessitated processing
the logs by hand after the contest. At least we didn't have to do
it *all* on paper.
We worked quite a few other multiple county expeditions and had fun
working K4XU from 10 counties during his mobile expedition. As many
have commented, 20 meters was the money band.
Thanks to John, WA7NWL and Rich, KB7YEB for their rigging skills in
putting up the towers and taking them down. Thanks to Jon, N7AZ for
the loan of the Cushcraft A3S. Thanks to all the organizers and state
captains for their efforts.
73 and see you next year!
Richard Kendrick, N7NT
