Comments:

Good contest. 6M conditions were not as good as last year but we still had
enough openings to make it interesting. Highlights include working KL7FF in
CO35 (op Paul, K7CW) and several meteor scatter contacts into N CA on 6M (grids
I wouldn't have hit otherwise). I had less 6M Q's and mults this year compared
to last year but did better on the higher bands.

The only significant antenna change was the addition of a 3L SteppIR (4L on
6M). Having two antennas proved to be a big time saver. I have the SteppIR
about 15' higher than the 7L M2 antenna and it worked much better for close in
contacts (less than 200 miles). I ran three rigs this year: 756ProIII/Acom
1000 (1KW) on 6M, IC746/Commander II (1KW) on 2M, and an FT-736R on 222, 432
and 1.2G (150W DEM amp on 222 and barefoot on the others). I'm not sure if
I'll ever be good at SO3R. Most of the time I turned down the volume on the
rigs not in use to keep the ambient noise level down. I need to work out a
better system for switching between rigs.

I plan on adding two towers (110' and 72') before next year and hope to have
several new antennas ready to go also. I'd really like to improve my score on
2M through 1.2G. I'll have more power on 432 and should also have a 903
transverter going by then. My 6M score is primarily dependent on openings and
local power line noise. It was damp this year so noise only affected me for
about 2-3 hours. The local power company just hired an RFI consultant to help
track down the power line noise that is affecting me. We're getting started
next week and with luck will have located and corrected all of the problems in
the next 12 months (it may take that long).

73,
Clay W7CE
