Comments:
During and after a Shriners Ceremonial in Kingston FN14sq, Betty VE3BLH, a
newbie to contesting did the ssb/fm qso's while Bill VE3CRU did the cw for 56
voice and 5 cw. This was a last minute thrown together Rover trip as personal
luggage left little room for rigs and antennas.
Rigs were a ProII on 6 @ 100 watts, Yaesu 817 into Mirage brick for 55 watts,
Icom IC-3 into Mirage brick for 20 watts 223.5, and Yaesu 780R for 10 watts
432.
Antennas were hamstick on 6, back 6'sections of K1FO's on the rest for 6 elmts
on 144, 8 on 223, 11 on 432. 144 was on top of a photographers h/d lightstand
@ 10', the rest individually placed on a cardboard box on the roof of the
Rovermobile, as needed. Hey, they worked okay!!! Covered FN14sq Saturday,
then FN14cb, FN13ax, FN04xa and FN03 Sunday totally on batteries not charged by
the vehicle.
DX was obtained on a brief 6 opening, and got some interesting results on the
upper bands with so little antenna and power including FN31, FN32, FN42 east,
EN10 and EN11 west and a few FM08. 6 qso's to W2SZ no sked and 2 to K8GP,
likewise no sked.
Betty really enjoyed the qso's and especially working the dx. Every qso was
new and special.
Thanks to all who worked us, and to the ARRL Contest Committee for sponsoring
the contest.
73,
Betty VE3BLH/R and
Bill VE3CRU
