Comments:
My goal was a full effort and at least 1000 QSO's. Wound up putting in less
than half time and making 450 QSO's. Everything was on track until Saturday
afternoon, but I just couldn't get myself motivated for the Saturday
afternoon/evening runs! Just too many other interesting things to do. I
really wonder if I'm losing my desire for contesting. After even just an hour
of running guys I'm thinking "been there, done that. Now what can I find
that's more fun".
I did accomplish one thing. I proved to myself (after years of packet-assisted
DX contests) that I can still find DX and copy call signs myself! Not sure I
want to do that again, however. I really enjoy seeing what others are finding
and occasionally making a rare find myself. I really wish they would just
merge the unassisted and assisted categories. Everyone has packet now and it's
not necessarily a blessing. It can help a score, but also hurt a score,
depending how it's used.
Highlights of the contest for me (40-meter Single Band) were having XW return
my CQ and working Fred, K3ZO, at HS0ZAR.
