20M was a bust for any AZ-TX path for the entire weekend. Very seldom could I
even hear the east TX stations. I checked the upper bands a few times in the
day hours - dead!
That left 40M as the only viable option from here, and stations had to compete
with the stateside RTTY contesters. Some of the mobiles operated in the Extra
CW portion of the band Sat evening with good results. 80 CW came to life for
the west coast, a couple of hours before closing on Sat.
Desperate to pick up a few more Q's, I even borrowed the XYL's mic and worked a
few mobiles on 40 PH on Sunday morning (following some OJT on how to push that
little button)!
The TQP is always a fun contest, no matter what the conditions or operating
time. The mobiles really do make it a great event .. and TX always has plenty.
Great job guys/gals. Thanks Chuck.
