Use of packet put me in the M/S category. I sent 125 spots to the packet
network (signing K6IDX on the cluster).

Thanks to these people who made this operation possible:
-Brad K6IDX for inviting me and for being a great host
-Ira K2RD for his invaluable help to solve a computer audio problem and a
Microham configuration issue by telephone on Friday night before the contest
-Rusty W6OAT for his support
Often, most of us contest participants learn something from station preparation
or contest operation to apply to the next contest. However, this time I learned
a profound lesson which had nothing to do with the contest.
I drove out to the K6IDX station on Friday with the intention of participating
in the RTTY practice. I left the Bay Area about an hour later than desired,
and was mad at myself for procrastinating my packing for the weekend because it
might have caused me to miss Friday's practice. I have always hated the
two-lane road between Auburn and Georgetown, and this time the weather was
foggy and the roads were wet. Then suddenly at some point, traffic stopped.
Ambulances and sheriffs were on the scene. There had been a fatal accident an
hour earlier and the sheriffs shut down the road. Surprisingly, it happened on
one of the better segments of the road. What a tragic way for some families to
begin 2009.

It made me wonder... what if I had been better prepared that day and ended up
driving through that road an hour earlier like I had originally planned? All
this made the significance of the contest that weekend pale in comparison.
Thanks to everyone for all the QSOs. Below are some of my statistics from the
contest.
I hope you all have a healthy and happy 2009!
