Comments:
Run 800W on 10, 15 and 20M. Run 400W on 40M. Do not operate on 80 or 160M. My
only HF antenna is a 3-element STEPPIR yagi with 30M/40M driven element and is
mounted on top of ourCondo. Condo is located in Osprey, FL near Sarasota on
the west coast of Florida. --------- Observation # ! --- During sunspot
minimun there is not enough bandwidth on 20M and 40M for the Phone Contest,
there is barely enough banwidth for the CW Contest. --- For running on Phone
I use a 2000 Hz filter and on CW I use 200 Hz filter. For S & P I use 2200 Hz
and 400 Hz. CW contesting is at least 5 times more Bandwidth efficient than
Phone (even though the usable phone band is about twice as wide as the usable
CW band. This was clear as it was almost impossible to find a run freq on
Sunday on 20M on Phone. In the CW Contest on 20M signals extended to 14.130
but it was still relatively easy to find a 200 Hz gap. I am a better phone
contest operator then CW operator, but got a better score on CW. This will
change next year as we will be able to have more BW available to us as 10M and
15M will be open more of the time and our personal phone scores should improve
( not to mention the increase in multipliers from the other bands).-----------
Observation # 2----Unassisted S & P operators are at a greater disadvantage
than is obvious. All operators should be assisted ( that is no distinction
between assisted or unassisted) or a new rule needs to be added that run
operators are required to give their call every X number of QSO's. Thanks to
everyone who operated in one or both Contests. ------ 73 and GL, K5RQ
