Comments:
Turned the rig on at NS minus 10 to find lots of static crashes and noise from
the thunderstorms north of us about 50 miles. It seemed like a rough night was
ahead, but as I tested out my antenna on 160, K8MM was there and quite loud, so
maybe there was hope after all. The signals on 40, 80, and 160 were actually
well above the noise on the receive antennas, so it turned out to be a pretty
good night from Kansas, at least for me.
Worked a few very loud CA stations on 20 at the top, but CQing got me nowhere
so I didn't stick around. The second radio is in the van in case I decide to
run Nebraska in two weekends, so this was a one radio event this evening. It's
good to have another ladder underway.
