Comments:

This contest reminded me of the CQWW VHF contests. That contest tends to be a 6
meter event with some activity on 2m. With 6 open, 2m and above seemed
deserted. I had to work extra hard to work a lot less than normal on the other
9 bands. Part of that was a much lower rover qso total than normal, and poor
tropo conditions, but the rest was apparently that most were focusing on 6.
Who would believe that my 432 and some microwave grid totals would be higher in
January than in June!

In the 2007 CQWW VHF contest 6 was wide open to many areas throughout the
country. The pileups were endless and I averaged over 100 q's per hour while on
6 meters. That must have been what it was like from Texas and along the Gulf
coast to Florida this time around. I found that even though 6 was open for a
number of hours on Saturday and on and off on Sunday, in this contest, the
average rate was around 50-60 per hour from here. So, a nice but not great
opening, at least as far as I observed. However, I was on the other bands quite
a bit - probably too much in hindsight - so perhaps missed some of the better
periods of the openings.

Anyway, it was fun as always. And I was lucky as there were storms close by
both Saturday and Sunday but fortunately they never got close enough to force a
shutdown. Tnx for the q's and congratulations to the many high scorers around
the country.
