Comments:
Conditions at the start of the contest were poor, but I was glad to see things
improve as the afternoon wore on. I was quite pleasantly surprised to be able
to run quite effectively on 40M and 80M. We had the typical South Texas noise
levels on the low bands, so it was still somewhat of a challenge.
My K3 from hell continues to give me problems. The AF control now rotates
continuously and only marginally controls AF volume. This will require a third
trip back to the factory. My other K3 has been trouble-free, but I'm still not
enamored with the radios in general.
BTW, I'm still an active musician, especially on weekends, so my little SO2R
station goes under utilized for many contests. If anyone wishes to guest op at
any time, just let me know. I have a pair of K3s and fairly decent antennas,
all low wires, but they work well. If you'd like to experience operating from
south central USA, just let me know!
Thanks to all for the fun, and am looking forward to the next one!
Paul, K5AF
