Comments:
A series of unfortunate events really impacted my plans for this one: hard drive
that crashed before the contest and the replacement lap top wouldn't connect
with my rig to key it - so back to the old fashioned way. Not ergonomically
efficient! In addition I had overnight guests and a nasty case of flu with high
fever and nasty muscle aches - just didn't have much time in the chair! The
result was a disappointly mediocre score.
Conditions seemed to be very good, especially on the high bands. In my limited
time on the air, contacts with Europe on 20 were easy - most on the first call.
A couple times I even checked my output power just to make sure it was still
just 5 watts!
The majority of ops were awesome, but there were a few that just would not ID.
Apparently they are depending on ESP or packet spotting to do their IDing for
them. I don't feel like waiting for several minutes just to get their call.
My ESP wasn't cutting it and I was running unassisted, so I usually just moved
on.
Station: Yaesu FT-897D running 5 watts to a 3 element tribander Yagi and
inverted vee.
73,
Randy, ND0C
