Comments:

Hi All,
First of all I wanted to thank Phil, VE3FAS for letting me use his great 160m
set up and Paul, VE3TA for helping with arrangements and radio.

I was aiming for 800,000 points but I am not even close. Last year and many
years before I was contesting from my home city QTH. That place was so noisy
that I really needed good conditions to hear many DX and last year we had good
condx.
VE3FAS' place however so quiet and with the 1,200 foot beverages you pretty
much hear every one (or at least that is what you feel). The band sounds way
more crowded and when ever you stop CQ-ing you could hear the EU traffic below
during the evening and early morning. This also creates the feeling that you
could work everybody...:-) but not with LP. Even stations with modest setup
from EU could create good audible signals on the beverages but working them
with LP is not possible in rough condx. CONDX must have been pretty marginal
because even the big guns were having hard time picking up my signal. I was
calling many of them but most of the time I did not even receive a question
mark. Never heard UA3-1, OH, LA, YO, OY. F5IN must have been the only one from
France because he had constant pie-up so not even France for me. I was calling
OZ2TF,(I think that is the call)SX1L and others for a while but no luck. I
heard one HB9 but did not even get the full call because he vanished. I was
posted only once by LY9T so that pretty much sums it up. Most of the EU
multipliers actually called me, however I had the feeling that they were not
copying me very well and they came to the QRG only because US hams posted me.
So the 800,000 points have to be tackled next time...:-)
Thanks to Phil I had great fun. I tried to put a bug in his ears by suggesting
to upgrade his 40m vertical and convert it to a 5 ele parasitic array...:-) (by
ON4UN) so watch out for him...:-)

See you next time,

73 es DX

Lali, VE3NE
