Comments:

The 2012 RTTY Roundup was the highest scoring from Maine for me so far. I
believe I am approaching the upper bound of a score from this location using a
simple, basic station. It consists of a doublet into a MFJ tuner, a G5RV for
backup, and a TS2000 @ 100 watts from the north side of a mountain (in a
valley). Beginners should never be intimidated from starting RTTY contesting
with only a basic setup. My only serious contesting tool is the fantastic N1MM
application using MMTTY in digital mode!

Operating solo is a bit tiring. Breaks needed to be taken. Unfortunately I have
always had a hard time convincing friends to come up and contest in the dead of
January in Maine especially when skiing is bad and Maine has only a limited
number of digital contesters locally. HI

All went very well. With more bands open, folks spread out a bit and were not
as aggressive on frequency. It always amazes me when someone takes the time to
work me and get my call correct in a major contest. I ran into only a few folks
with the classical all power (+30db)/canâ??t hear setup. Hope they got another
station from Maine! LOTW appears to be fixed. Uploaded QSOâ??s before I turned
the computer off and they were in my account within 2 hours of the contest end.
30% QSLâ??d by Monday morning.

I run M/S low because of the perceived need for cluster access and my continued
effort to get a relief operation for this contest. Since spotting is very
limited it is mainly helpful in working EU in the AM. With a low power station
I have to be running on a frequency for a LONG time before I get a spot (just
about time to change bands).

I am still amazed at Don AA5AU! He was my first contact and found me (or I
easily found him) on every band I was on. And I wasnâ??t easy to find since I
was mostly doing S&P.

Thanks to allâ?¦..
Bob KB1JZU trustee W1SLF
