Comments:
Finished getting new broadside/endfire array for Europe operational in the dark
the night before the contest (details www.aa1k.us).
But dismal conditions the first night of the contest; only 19 ten-pointers in
the log (17 from Europe) although we heard many Eu stations in the first couple
of hours.
The second night was a complete turn-around.
We started hearing Europe an hour before sundown (2215z) on Saturday, and
worked the first one at 2142z and another a few minutes later. The pace
quickened as the sun set and we had a steady stream of ten-pointers until 06z
when someone pulled the curtain down. Only a few and weaker after that. Heard
ZL1BYZ working CE1/K7CA but that was only time we heard a ZL all weekend. Did
have a nice opening to VK6/7 on Sunday morning with three in the log. Heard
only one weak JA at sunrise on Sunday but no QSO.
Never heard KL7 but worked all the other states.
Rig: Elecraft K3, Alpha 89 amp (1.5 kw). Parasitic 3 el/4 el. vertical TX array
and new 4-el. broadside/endfire vertical array.
