Comments:
Murphy was kind enough to cause both Alpha 87As to pop fuses Thursday afternoon
for no apparent reason. That gave me time to buy replacements that I never
needed. About 7 hours into the contest, it appeared one radio's bandpass
filters failed. I swapped it out. A few hours latter, the same thing happened.
I swapped out coax cables and a bad coax jumper turned out to be the problem,
so just a little time wasted.
I operated the first 24+ hours and took a break. I went to heat up some food
and heard water running. The shutoff valve on the washing machine water line
had popped off and water was pouring out of the laundry room into the basement.
I called my plumber who told me how to turn off the water to the house in the
basement. I then screwed the shutoff valve back on and turned the water on and
voila. If I had operated 48 hours straight, there would have been quite a mess.
But there just wasn't enough going on 80/160m to work through the 2nd night.
20m opened 1000Z Saturday morning. It was like the valve was turned on. It
opened, 100's called. 15m was pretty amazing on Saturday also. Both opened
later and weaker Sunday.
