Comments:
Storm conditions this weekend with solar flare remnants subsiding while a winter
rain storm steam rolled through the central coast of California. I heard rain
static for the first time, it was a building wave of electrical energy,
overwhelming the Icom 756PRO receiver on 40 meters. The static was perfectly
timed while logging Asian stations prior to sunrise.
Our EU-opening on 20m was short lived and not very stable. I competed against
two walls of signals launched from the east coast of North America in addition
to EU stations logging RU competitors. In contrast, the RDXC scoring system
compensated with its in-country points allowed, perhaps, other RadioSport
sponsors will consider the same?
Moderate openings into Asia this weekend with 15m providing the bulk of my
scoring effort. I enjoyed a brief Saturday afternoon opening into Asiatic
Russia and my 'thanks' to all the JA stations who, once again, made a big
difference in the KA3DRR RadioSport log.
Overall, I enjoyed myself in the pilot's seat at my mentor's QTH this weekend
and I'm looking forward to the next WRTC2014 qualifying event in April.
