- Station preparation -

I wasn't able to restore my SO2R station yet. Sorry, I ahd to use the same
radio to work multipliers. My 2 x 6 antenna switch is yet under repair and so I
was able to build a new (1x6 - one day project) antenna switch.
Many thanks to Oleg, YL3DW, that helped me from Latvia to build the switch.
For information, I broke a coax relay switching it during transmission (not
intentionally of course, but we need an interlock).
Spent all week in preparing the contest (also with WPX SSB in mind). The
problem is again the 40 meters antenna, it is a dipole only that puts a good
signal into USA. Other antennas, verticals and loops, don't work as well in
this QTH !

- Contest -

Bad propagation invited me to think about ten meters at the end of the contest,
but, at the end of the contest.... ten meters were far away. Absolutely weak
signals from EU and I even missed many easy multipliers on 10.

Bad propagation on other bands too. Not many north american stations involved
in the contest, I see that south americans are very active in this contest.

The Russian DX Contest is a beautiful contest, very complete and competitive if
you take part in the SOAB MIXED category. I needed more experience! I think now
that I understand the rules, I could get minimum 25% more points.

In this contest a good operator with a minimum good station design can beat big
stations with normal operators.

A very important thing is to read the 3830 reflector archive of the previous
year and, also, to read the rules many times.... this way you will understand
that, if you are here in Sicily, you must go looking for russian stations where
they are and don't have to call CQ because too many 3 points QSO will come.

That's all for now... see you next week-end in the CQ WPX SSB.... Good luck to
my friends II9P from Arcibessi Mountain QTH with their M/S effort. They will
enjoy... I hope to beat them (HI!).....(48/36Hr advantage! I don't really think
to beat them...but I am a provocator! :-).

73 de Fabio, IT9GSF.
