Comments:
No T7 operation was possible this yr due to snow damages (2.5mt). So plans of
raising my own 2011 CW-HP world record a bit more couldn't be executed.
Therefore the backup solution (I4) was developed although some (minor) damages
both inside and outside are making the station not reliable and competitive for
AB-HP 2R operations ATM.
Contest itself was mainly clicking on everything that looked green/blue into
WT. Due to the unlimited mults flow I never happened to make a clean sweep
during the 24 hrs. Some runs were possible high in the band (around .060 on 15
and 20) without being blown away. I also had some success right at the
beginning on 21005 +/-1khz.
Having 15mt closed at 1st around 15z made me thinking of going to 40 early
(2hrs b4 SS) so that I could get a good QRG low in the band, skip was short, no
Euros would have been on top of me, big guns were on 20 and I was probably the
1st I. This proved to be a good choice as it allowed for >1hr prime time
running on 7002. I wasn't able to hold a run qrg for more than 10/15 minutes
later in the evening!!
Some walking on 40 was possible in deep night towards USA.
80-160m allowed keeping a qrg for EU runs, lost it 4-5 times maximum.
Mults could be worked but it needed a lot of mental energy. Sometimes after a
RBN spot there was time just for a couple of calls to get the mult until stns
like es9c, om8a, 9a7a came on qrg (plus another 10 guys). By that time my
chances were gone and it was better to click on another spot and eventually
come back later.
Basically 80% of mults heard on 10-40m went in the log.
On 80-160 everything outside EU was a miracle. I heard and called many
NA,SA,AS,AF mults but no way.
Sunday morning favoured Southern EU on 10/15mt and that made all the
difference. When 15mt opened up for real the skip moved from UA9-UA0 to UA6-UA4
and then UA3-UA1 towards the ctest end. The opening was well timed and sigs from
each area peaked S-9+.
10mt was a yr 2011 copy. Last yr I didn't recognize the 10m opening was skewed
via SE (120deg) as the T7 LPDA has very low gain and wide fwd lobe; this yr
when I heard the 1st sigs on 10 I had one 5L to NE and another 5L to SE. It
took few seconds to realize the opening was skewed and all sigs were peaking
between 90 and 180 deg.(although still mainly SE-120deg)
Congrats to V55V for getting call+nr on 80mt, ufb ears! Sig was S-3 on the
meter here, so I can just image how I sounded there ;-)
On the other hand several S-9/9+ guys, even from Europe, were totally deaf.
All in all another 50 mults (dxcc+obl) were heard and called but without
success.
Rate, dxcc and obl charts are included below.
