Comments:

A common cliche among us hams is that "they always come back".
That was exactly what happened to be with Fernando de Noronha. I had the
pleasure to operate on this "paradise island" in CQ WW CW 1996 as PY0FF (TNX,
ANDRE!). Throughout the following 16 years, I had a dream to have another
opportunity to return to PY0. This dream finally came true.

PW0F was a field-day type operation with temporary wire antennas put up just on
friday before the contest and taken down right thereafter.

On 10-15-20 I had 3-el triband wire beam fixed to EU and a triband sloper
dipole to USA. On 40, I had an inverted-V. All antennas were 10 meters above
the ground. Due to this antenna constellation, my log shows 60% EU QSOs and
only 23% NA QSOs. A higlight was the number of JAÂ's - 350 of them 9%.

My 40 meter score remained small for several reasons. The antenna was very low.

500 W is not quite enough being this far in the South. Furthermore, I was "too
rare DX for contest" - the pileup was too big. I had to move to 7050 and work
split up 1 to 5. On the lower part of 40, I could not penetrate between the NA
and EU Big Guns desperatly calling CQ.

Murphy's trick was that my K3 broke down just before the contest and I had to
resort to a spare ICOM 756 which didn't have a CW filter. (Fortunately I
learned to listen CW wide in the late 50's when the rigs had no CW filters!). I
used Peter's (PY0FM) Alpha 76A with only 500w - the AC line was too weak for
more power.

I am grateful the Araucaria DX group and the Arcala Team whose help made this
operation possible.
