Saturday started out moderately well with the planetary A at 3 and K=1, but it
soured after 17Z. I quit and enjoyed an unplanned day off with my wife. I
returned after dinner to find the A at 17. Virtually no over-the-pole opening
to western Asia and eastern Europe on 20m. Heavy static from local storms and
almost nothing out of the country on 40m. At this point the contest becomes a
trial by boredom. The winners soldier on. Those who have no hope of winning
play for a while and then quit early, making it even harder for those who
stay.
