Comments:
Operated from NH this time since Mom's 90th birthday is this weekend and she is
in NH. First time connecting these antennas to a radio in at least 6 months. I
was amazed that they still worked (80M antenna had 3:1 SWR, but guys mostly
heard me OK). Before the contest, heard K5GN calling "PRE-NA" everywhere I
tuned on 20M - never heard him again until we worked on 80.
Great start on 20, maybe my best ever. At first the 6s were booming, then the
0s then the 8s/9s. Constant flow of new loud stations to work, and only
received three serial numbers higher than I gave in the first hour.
At 0055 my son informed me that the thunder and lightning were getting pretty
close so I shut down and unplugged everything. After 40 minutes it was calm
again, the weather radar on the Web showed everything had blown out to the
east, so I got back on. 40 was very cluttered with digital signals of all
types, and 80 was very noisy...needed repeats on many numbers.
One radio, two band changes.
Nice to see everyone, both old hands and newcomers.
73,
Doug K1DG
